Dioxin Health Services (IWD) New Plymouth

Health Services for workers and residents in the Paritutu area, recently put in place by the MOH with TDHB because of chemical fallout from the former IWD now Dow Agro plant. Raises some facts and questions. First that there was indeed some or several exposures to potentially deadly chemicals from the plant over the eligibility area, from 1962-1987. Secondly that the MOH has now recognised that fact. And is now paying for and implementing health service for those who worked or lived within an area 1200 meters around the plant. The question is why is the MOH through us the taxpayer paying for these health services, and not Dow Agro the perpetrators. Surely Dow Agro as a company has insurances for such likely mishaps. Plus why are the residents and workers not covered by ACC. Surly the chemical fallouts from the plant would be classed as industrial accidents. And the workers and residents would be covered by ACC being an industrial accident. Or are they suggesting it was no accident.
